I have Two Black Copper Marans and One possible Easter Egger Roosters that I need to rehome. Hatched out on 5/1 and have been handled and socialized every since. They are good roosters and have a very pleasant personality.
When I purchased the eggs the breeder was looking to get any roosters that hatched back. Which was good. However now they have changed their mind (guess there were to many hatched). Now I have the beautiful boys that I would love to keep, but city zoning does not allow roosters on less than 5 acres of land.
The Black Copper Marans are starting to show the pearl greens and deep blood reds in their feathers, the Easter Egger has beautiful rust reds and blue greys.
These guys are great together and are protective of the hens without being pushy.
I live in south Gwinnett County Georgia in Snellville.

Hi there. :frow

Your blue one is NO Marans at all. I was looking at what I thought were major comb sprigs... but actually looks like a pea comb (it's one or the other). Also appears to be bearded and clean legs. If that hatched from a Marans colored egg it will likely be an Olive egger cockerel. Otherwise and Easter Egger.

Just for informational purposes... Marans is always said with the S at the end whether singular or plural. :)

Handsome pet quality boys. :love

You might try your local craigslist farm and garden section. No shame in letting them feed someone's family if finding a home doesn't happen. Best wishes! :fl

Funny thing is the run that the hens and rooster they came from where all Black Copper Marans. The breeder thought that his egg came from the Blue Copper Maran coup by mistake. All the eggs were the Tell Tail dark walnut brown. So the only thought was that he was a blue. Goodness only knows. I would love to keep them, but just not in the cards.

Thank you so much for the input.

Escapes and accidental mating does happen sometimes even though we do our best.

I would let them know that your blue is indeed no Marans at all... just so they can reconsider what they may have going on. I always appreciate reports back as I cannot fix what I don't know. Chances are, they have more breeds than just Marans. A lot of folks keep Ameraucana and Marans to get the OE.

One of the black boys also looked like it was not feather legged, but they weren't really clear pictures, so I could be mistaken. Mysteries are kinda fun, when it isn't something to worry about. :pop

Thank you so much.
I updated the posting... The two Black Copper Marans both have feathers on their legs (they kinda look like teenage boys trying to grow a beard - a little scraggly...LOL).
