Copper Marans

EXACTLY!! Seems like of all the hatches I did this year, the best one were shipped eggs that I bought just as layers, that are mutts. The seller told me they are awesome layers, and lay through winter, they are super hardy, and very laid back. I bought a dozen eggs, she sent 14, one was scrambled from shipping or something, and the rest of the 13 all hatched! You NEVER get a hatch like that on ones that are very valuable to you! HA!

I have hatched both my Cuckoo Marans and local pick up Black Copper Marans, neither were shipped eggs. My Cuckoo Marans from my birds have all hatched. The Black Coppers I got locally hatched 8 out of 12, and 1 of the 8 was Bent, a disabled chick who was bent at the back/neck. I recently lost her in her sleep (I am still sad about finding her, but it was quiet, at least.) So out of 12 Black Copper eggs, I had 7 healthy survivors, then lost one to an accident in the yard (Dont let 10 year olds with creative ideas for shelters loose in your pet area, it's dangerous)...Now I have 6 sturdy Black Copper Marans.

I am on Bev Davis's waiting list also for more pure stock, although both my Black Coppers and Cuckoo Marans are from good lines. I cant wait!

I have had good luck hatching my cuckoos and BCs just like any other egg. I prefer low humidity until day 18 and try to go no higher than 65%.

I think they are beautiful and so so calm. My girls are nice and "pantaloonie". The boys are so regal. And marans babies are just gorgeous. One of my little cockerals just started crowing this am. He is 9 or 10 weeks. It was that adorable little sound that our bantam mille fleur d'uccles just started making. So cute out of their little bodies.

This is my favorite picture of my Francoise at 3 1/2 weeks; I wish the picture was better, I just love his stance, and that look on his face is just precious! He's turned out to be quite the looker - even DH thinks he's handsome! DH loves "those dangly things that hang off his beak" - BA HAHAHA!

Yeah, they're real lookers when they're babies! Here's one of my roo about that age! He's more handsome now. Mine DONT have the fuzzy french legs though, so I hope to get those lines also/instead, and just have these as my layers and to share....I had already purchased these and hatched them before I was as committed to the promotion of the breed as I am now.

(I got a little goofy with the white paint crayon, he doesnt have white all over him)

OH GOODNESS! Looks like they have the exact same expression! HA! Do you have a current pic of your boy? Here's the most recent pic of Francoise - I just love him, he makes the cutest little noises to his girlfriend all the time:

I was on Bev's waiting list something like 6 months for eggs. I think the best way to go is do lots of research, and settle on a breeder than has the stock you like most; then, get on their list and just wait.....I'm happy that I did it now!

Well, He's a little older here, but just 10 weeks, I've posted it before, I think:

He still looks a little girlie here, but he's more manly than the hens are....I got one roo and the rest are hens....
