Copper Sulfate

Linking the use of copper sulfate in water to longevity in hens is a bit of a stretch.

Copper sulfate is a proven antimicrobial, though, and its use in water may improve the environment in the intestinal tract.
I don't think she was linking it their longevity per say, just stating that it hadn't killed them and they lived long and healthy lives - proving maybe that it had no adverse effects.

I have been using copper sulfate for almost three years and none of my chickens have died from it. In fact, I currently have two BSL hens that are nine years old and still laying. I also had an 11 year old rooster that might have lived longer if a hawk hadn't gotten him.
The proof is in the pudding. If you choose not to believe it, then fine. But please do not come on my thread and tell people false information.
I am glad you have not seen any adverse effects of using CS routinely on your birds. However copper requirements are fairly low and there is not a wide margin of safety before it can become toxic. I am just advocating that people research this very carefully before jumping into dosing their birds routinely based on something they read on a forum.

I also have not seen anyone post FALSE information on YOUR thread. When you post a thread on a public forum people are going to respond and you may or may not agree with all of the view points expressed.

It will tell you right here CS is not harmful if you use it wisely. Here is where you can buy it.

If you still choose to believe that CS is harmful and death is a result, then please leave the thread. My goal was not for people to come on here and put their opinions, but for people to come on here, and if they believe it, ask for more info on it.Please don't put your opinion of it on here, but your interest. And if you choose not to believe it, then get on somewhere!

No cause you said not to use it in the winter...wonder why tho.
CS is something that interests me if I have worms problems....have read a lot about it but haven't acquired any yet.
Oh yeah, forgot I said that. I wonder why too, it will also effect a horses's getting winter coat, hence why I don't give it to them in the winter either. Copper sulfate will kill worms and parasites.

Hi, I have a bird with respiratory illness but seems fine otherwise. Our vets don't treat chickens???? And the city vet will but is costly. Can't buy antibiotics in Canada as it's not ethical to treat without knowing what it is...so they say. But it's ethical to let them die I guess. Any suggestions in how to save my flock from whatever it is??
