Copper Sulfate

I had used a solution of CS with acv for lice, worked the first year, not the second.
Have since noticed that Copper Sulfate is an ingredient in one of the feeds I use.
I agree with the cautions, am not convinced if it's efficacy.

Hi, I know this is an old thread but I'm new here. I just added 1/4 teaspoon of copper sulfate to our outside water buckets (about a gallon and a half). The water is now a milky blue. Is that normal? I know the copper sulfate is blue but I thought it would dissolve clear. Also, I got the fine, ground copper sulfate (easy to dissolve) should I use less of this? Thank you so much in advance!!!

It will tell you right here CS is not harmful if you use it wisely. Here is where you can buy it.

If you still choose to believe that CS is harmful and death is a result, then please leave the thread. My goal was not for people to come on here and put their opinions, but for people to come on here, and if they believe it, ask for more info on it.Please don't put your opinion of it on here, but your interest. And if you choose not to believe it, then get on somewhere!
I was told to use it. My boy has canker sores. And rather than give All my chickens medication to get rid of it, I think this is a better idea! Antibiotics don't work for this...and I'm not sure who has it and how doesn't....so it just makes sense to use CS every once in awhile! And that other person is a "fear monger"....antibiotics can KILL your birds if given to much! So it's all perspective...and being CAREFUL! SMH....I'm behind you with using CS....and I do have a question. I can't find where I read it, but do I use metal or glass bowls to give them their water when I've put the CS in it? I want to be careful! Lol...

This is just a helpful hint for keeping your flock healthy.
Copper sulfate is a natural resource that you can buy. It can be given to pretty much all animals and is very useful for maintaining a healthy flock. To give the chickens copper sulfate, mix a quarter teaspoon of it in a one gallon chicken waterer. It will kill parasites and overall keep your chickens healthy.
Feel free to ask me any questions!

Copper Sulfate is a poison or algaecide and some use it instead of good husbandry practices like changing out the flocks' water or cleaning out their chickens drinking fountains, bowls, or cups. The pest that Copper Sulfate controls best is blue-green algae, and misquote larva or wigglers associated with stale water. Like all poisons the lethality of Copper Sulfate is in the dose that you or your chickens consume or are exposed to. Copper Sulfate is a proven cause of kidney failure but the margin between being poisonous and just being problematic is a small margin and after over 70 years raising chickens and being around chickens the margin of safety is so slim that I am still not comfortable using it.

There is a world of difference in treating 1,000s or in some cases 100,000s of gallons of water in a stock pond or tank and a few miserly pints in a chicken drinking fountain, not to mention the 100s or 1,000s of percent difference between the size and weight of chickens, compared to cows, and horses.

I know that copper sulfate is used as an organic pesticide
...fungicide

Used to kill tree roots growing into sewer pipes too,
where I got mine - in the plumbing aisle.
I use it around my septic tank to keep roots from growing into it.

Also is a soil amendment......and is an ingredient in many chicken feeds.

Can be both a plus and an annihilator .....MUCH caution is needed applying it.
