I do have "wild" land, out there where all snakes are safe, they are good to have around. Eat bugs mice rats other snakes etc. (I have many types), however in my yard where the smaller grandkids and my chickens play is another story. In the yard I do kill all snakes to big for the girls to eat.
One must be careful with snakes, if you dont know what it is exactly, treat it as if it were poisonous! Best to er on the safe side.
I had a place out on a lake, 15 acres next to a 15,000 acre game reserve. Every July 4th we would have a party, and the guests never new we killed at least 3 big copperheads each time. Only ones that new this was going on was the copperhead patrol.
