Corid vs Ericlor 10

Has anyone seen / used Ericlor , I've have 3 babies 8 days old with droopy wings , less energy , no bloody pooh though, Vitamin water & electrolytes 24-7 , VetRX yesterday , & I seen Ericlor eBay , Corid locally , wanna keep em all healthy - any suggestions anyone !

If they have coccidiosis, vitamins will make it worse and vetrx won't do a thing.
Are they too hot?

Ericlor looks like a sulfa drug, I wouldn't use it unless you have a difficult strain of coccidiosis. Corid is just a thiamine inhibitor , it's perfectly safe

Thanks for the reply,, I knew I was grasping with the VetRX , however I felt it couldn't hurt ,, Purina Electrolytes & Probiotics in their water , medicated chick starter,, cleaned their coop / brooder , fresh shavings , observed droppings of 1, theres 3 looking droopy , 16 total , lamp is angled to 1 corner, heighth is adjusted , 95 in a roughly 18in pattern, draft free garage , unplugging light when temp in the garage is above 80,say 85,, 13 are doing phenomenal , 3 are humped up , losing weight , eating less !! Should I try Corid & isolate the 3 ?

I would pay attention to temperature with 8 day-olds. All chicks need to be in a space large enough to provide one place to warm up and a second place to cool down (if only a frozen water bottle to snuggle against). That said, what is the max temperature in the garage? How big is the brooder?

I might isolate the 3 in attempt to less stress them if the other mates are zooming around. This, plus a couple days of hourly offerings to their beaks of sugar water and finely minced boiled egg yolks.

With no bloody poo I wouldn't treat with Corid. Where did the chicks come from?

Gets hot in the garage , 90 last few days - brooder / cage is small ,, 36inches by 36 inches, with 2 corner ( 18 in ) of heat lamp projecting , Holiday W/E will be spent doing another brooder / cage of a larger size - so I should hold off on Corid ? Eggs were purchased on eBay & incubated by me so I have really no ideas of how parent fowl were kept .

Heat lamp is off above 80 degrees , minced egg last night , the worst of the 3 seemed interested but wouldn't peck it up & yes the other 13 chicks are zooming around, trying to fly and will leap for boiled egg

Dose with corid immediately, it won't hurt them if they don't need it.

Does 1/2 tspn per Gallon for 5 day regimen sound correct or is it a full tspn per gal. ? For suspected infected fowl , also the 13 gladiators that are doing so well , should they also be on Corid ?

Can you please post photos of the chicks, the brooder setup and their poop?

You have 16, 8-Day old chicks in a 3x3 brooder.
It's 90F in the garage and you are providing a heat lamp which you turn off at 80F-80F. You mention in 1 place the lamp is pointed at 1 corner, in another you mention 2 corners.


Too hot and not enough space to get to a cool spot.

Provide more room for them. While yes, chicks need heat, they also cannot regulate very well. Turn on a fan and give them some indirect air flow. Chicks can tolerate cooler temps better than Hot.



The Corid will not hurt them, but if you are going to treat, then give the correct dosing which is below. Make sure they are drinking well. With that many chicks in a brooder, you likely need 2 water and feed stations.




Liquid Corid dose is 2tsp or Powdered Corid Dose is 1 1/2tsp per gallon of water given for 5-7 days as the only source of drinking water.
Do not add any extra vitamins/electrolytes that contain B1(Thiamine) to food or water during the course of treatment.

There are 9 strains of Coccidia that affect Chickens. Only a couple of those present as blood in the poop, so chicks can have Coccidiosis even if you don't see bloody poop.
