Cornish Thread

I won an auction on eBay for 4 doz eggs, they were suppose to be Welsummer, Ameraucana and Olive Eggers. The breeder claimed that he would have to send 2 shipments to make sure I get the freshest eggs. I told him I would accept what ever his girls were laying so I didn't have to wait too long. His packing wasn't the greatest so I lost a lot of eggs out of the first box and the same with the second

. This is where the Cornish comes into the story, the second box was half green eggs and half light brown eggs. Wellies have chocolate brown??? I checked out the sellers other auctions and he had Cornish eggs for sale also. Hummmmm? I wonder if he put Cornish eggs in to fill up my order? I ask the seller when I requested replacement eggs what the breed of the light brown egg was? He didn't answer my question only that he would send more eggs!?? Can someone please post pictures of their eggs so I can compare??? Thanks!

I don't think anyone here is going to be able to tell you if you have Cornish eggs or not until they hatch. This is the chance you take when you purchase eggs from people you don't know online. Cornish are wonderful if you want them, but if you don't, then they make good dinner with plenty of meat at just a few months old. Good, pure Cornish are poor layers though.

Thanks, thought I would just try, I still haven heard back form the seller. There is no way these are Welsummer eggs so I guess it's just a waiting game!

Wellies should lay dark brown eggs, but not everyone breeds just to get them dark. I, for instance, breed the bird to standard and egg color is secondary to that and egg laying ability. You will find out when they hatch.

All of mine are pets anyway so either way I will love it! Surprises are awesome!

There you go!
Although a good number of people are on threads like this to discuss pure breeding or standard breeding, that is not the case for everyone. Some are hear to discuss the meat attributes of Cornish, and some just want to know what they can expect from the Cornish they happened to get with a mix of them. It is all good. It all boils down to what your needs and expectations are for the fowl you keep.
