Cornish Thread

That's a shame JR.

I know I always feel like I should help them but I always leave them as if it's not strong enough to hatch it won't make a strong addition to the flock.

Were yours cross breeds or pure Cornish ?

Dave they are all crosses.
And I strongly disagree with that philosophy.environmental conditions, namely a cheap incubator that refuses to cooperate in the heat and humidity department would probably do in any animal.
This same incubator only produced around a 30% hatch rate the last go around. The hovabator was around 80%. Needless to say, after two poor hatches I will be using the hovabator from now on.The snap action wafer thermostat holds a steadier temperature than either one of the digital thermostats. Without reliable temp control, humidity is uncontrollable. That having been said I respect your opinion and appreciate your input.:)

The digital incubator has been a problem child from the start. I seriously don't believe its a genetic issue. I put the chicks in the outside brooder and they started drinking and eating immediately. I may be imagining things but this batch seems more aggressive. They are already pecking and pulling on one another.

Ive had 6 die after pipping. They knock a hole then nada.
Don't know if its the incubator or the shells which seem to be very hard

Dont know what kind of incubator you have but I was having the same problem until I bought a new incubator. I almost get a 100% hatch on the ones I candle and are fertilized. Also havent had splayed legs or hatched with yolk out

I agree JR, that was meant for genetic issues like I've had with very dark brown egg laying strains of Welsummer, also my La Bresse would very often pip then fail at the end, but all other breeds I've had real good results with my Brinsea Incy.
Just bought a new one and it gets its first start on Thursday so a bit nervous as it will have some important eggs in it.

Just my two cents, I purchased an older Sportsman 1502E used for the same price as a new cheapie desktop incubator ($300). It worked flawlessly. The one thing I have noticed, it's helpful to put any incubator into a small space (I used a small guest bathroom, no room for guests once the incubator's in!!) that has very consistent temperature. Otherwise there are temperature swings.

I may want to put mine in the spare closet instead of the spare room. I have a small round old school incubator. Anything to help. It wouldn't deter any guest if it was in the bathroom. Not big enough to get in the way. haha

I got a sportsman 1502, the wife surprised me with going half on cost so I couldnt turn it down. It works great. Just have to remember to add water every so many days....but if anyone here wants one and can build it i highly recomend it. You can buy all the equipment and attach it to a cabinet or a wine cooler thing. Im dont regret buying it but once I had it I could see how to make it
