Cornish Thread

They are worth every penny. His bloodlines go back to some of the very best cornsih bantams ever bred. I just happen to live fairly close to him and tehre are four or five cornish bantam breeders with really high end stock within 50 miles. Thats unusual but good for me!

Awesome budsbirds! Man you are lucky to have that sort of stock that close. It is a real struggle to find decent Cornish in my neck of the woods!

I would really doubt that a company like Tractor supply would sell Cornish X as Americuanas. I do know that they sell alot of cockerals. And tell people that they are 100%good pullets. But things companies do for a profit. I guess they will.

Well I am sad to report that I personally know several people, like my sister, that they either did sell them to or attempted to sell them to: They didn't call them Ameraucanas, but said they were blue egg layers. Luckily, my sister had sense to call me and ask before buying them. She read the bin signs and texted me a picture of the birds before she purchased them. Instead, she puchased 6 Production Reds from the pullet bin and now has five hens and a cockeral.

It is not TSC per se....but rather some of the people who work there. I know a young local couple who are still stuck with half a dozen of them: They have been trying to get rid of the rest of them and get layers which is what they wanted in the first place.

I'm not trying to be snarky, it just is... what it is... at the end of the day.

I do not know why Tractor Supply does this, I really would not mind getting some of those birds and already knowing and planning on what has to be done so I could use them as meat, but not knowing was what is the most irritating part.

I did butcher one yesterday, but the other two are not in as bad shape; I am going to do them when I recuperate from having to do the boy already yesterday. It was not an easy thing, and I had to make a few mistakes and learn first, like not letting them eat for 24 hours first, why didn't any of you guys tell me this already..?

Hahahaha! I hope it gets easier and I can get better at it, because I did not think I did all that good a job on him until he was in the pot and cooking for the dogs. I boiled him up and his final "Gift" is that he is right now at this moment being cooked up with some red beans, rolled oats, dried boiled corn, assorted grains with molasses, carrots, collard greens, and potatoes for the dogs (I make my own dog food), one of whom is pregnant. His sacrifice and suffering has ended and he is going to be nourishment for my dog's unborn children, isn't that something how the "Circle Of Life" works sometimes..?

He was suffering too, because when I took the bones out of the pot last night, The Beautiful Countess Marina cried because his leg-bones were bent very badly, and this must have hurt him terribly. I am so glad I made his end quick and painless.

So I still have two more to do, I will do this within the next few days after I keep them from eating, and hopefully I will get used to it and be better and more accurate in cutting them open and cleaning them,,?

Thanks again for all of your help you guys, I am posting on a few other threads today too because we got six new babies now too, so I would love to share the pictures and stories with you all there!

Oh, and one more thing; I made a video I Uploaded to my YouTube Channel when I got the new babies, and in the "Video Description" I referenced this site for anyone who wanted to know more information about raising their own chickens! So if you see a whole bunch of new Members coming here and talking about learning of this site from a video, it is mine!

He has nice color. He's a little leggy and long but might get better with some age.

Ok thanks. The 3 judges gave her best of breed just because they weren't sure what she was but they loved her, they asked me to figure out what she was for next year

Were they actually APA or ABA licensed judges? If they were I can't imagine why 3 of them would have agreed to give Best of Breed to a bird they couldn't identify. Doesn't make sense.
