I have purchased and hatched Buff Cornish eggs from the Georgia Mad Hatcher, they may not be a show cornish, but they are heavy large breasted birds I will continue to breed them as they are heavier and meatier than my Dark Cornish, my main interest is Meat and eggs secondary and these guys fit the bill.

The buff is an interesting color trait genetically.

It would work to your advantage to purchase something like a quality Dark cockerel to use on some of your hens, and then back cross them to again get the buff color. In any color but buff, this would only take a generation or two. But, with the buff color you'll have a much harder time because of it's complexity.

However, if meat is what you care about- as I do- then color shouldn't matter to you. They'd be purple, and I wouldn't care.






On a side note to the rest of the world: It's tax season, and as a result I've decided I have to sell hatching eggs next year if I want to even come close to making ends meet on the Cornish- so start putting orders in. Even though i sold several 100 dollars worth of breeding stock, my wife informed me that the chicken hobby is costing quite a bit. I'm also going to have to invest in a quality incubator to better increase my hatching percentages. Otherwise, it's far cheaper and easier to buy CX birds to eat!

Which btw: I also need to update that the lone CX hen that survived, did indeed produce two eggs that grew into offspring. Those two, I believe one of each sex- are sired by the White Cornish cock. I've wondered throughout their whole life why they were always so much bigger than their WC hatchmates- and now I've figured it out. Will be interesting to see how they'll be backcrossed WC.

Did you happen to check ebay or anything?
This seems like a cool thread. I don't have any cornish, personaly, but my family's always had a few about, and for like 5+ years this one rooster has waddled around our place. He's like 8 or more now We have some hatchery stock to butcher and a trio of show whites. They're so cool.
