that is odd you got a barred one, yeah has to be recessive, prolly on both the rangers and Cornish Cross I'd say. Oh and that does look like a nice cross you have thereI have some chicks I "made" for slower growing larger birds. I wanted the larger thighs and legs but still keep the huge breasts.
I crossed a CX rooster (from a hatchery) with a Dixie Rainbow; This is what I got..
The weird thing is I got barred ones and almost white ones. No other rooster was available to the hens so it has to be the CX cross.
Brahmas have nice dark meat just not enough breast for me lol It's fun to experiment anyway.

indeed, just seeing the picture I figured that's what it was but no telling what rocks are all mixed in the cornish rock mutt cross
Barred rocks are big meaty chickens just slower growers and not enough breast meat for me lol
No doubt to advantage but seem like very long legs.Update on my dark Cornish purchased from Ideal poultry.. Pictures taken today at appropriately 16 weeks.
