Cornish Thread

OK thanks Hellbender, it is unfortunate because I like a lot of what I see in her. I'm waiting to see how the chicks from my second brood turn out. They all have nice pea combs. I have one cockerel in that group that I like a lot, so far. I am in no rush to breed inferior birds! I really, really dislike culling so the last thing I want is a bunch of those. The bad quality hens will have a home in the mixed layer flock. We can cull the eggs as omlettes.

Oops sorry everyone, I am posting on a number of different threads and forums and got messed up, my mistake!! I'll clarify: The orange mystery cross rooster with a single comb, I don't plan on breeding at all. I was just curious if anyone thought he might have Cornish in him, or what he might be a mix of. I also have Buckeyes, and I have a nice Buckeye pullet that has a single comb, and I forgot where I was and thought Hellbender was referring to her. None of my dark cornish have single combs, all are pea, but I was wondering if the red in the shoulders and the large red wing triangle in that Cornish rooster I posted on page 164 were going to give me problems with colour down the road.
Sorry for my confusion !!!! Posting without enough coffee............ since I switched to decaf I've been pretty clueless.

I switched to 1/2 caff and some B12. To much caffeine was giving me a headache. I suppose I could just not drink the whole pot.

As soon as I find my miniSD to SD adapter (I may have to buy another) I'll post some pics of my Darks. My phone holds a mini and I can't find my camera. If you weren't 25 hrs away we could swap cockerels to eliminate to much line breeding.lol

I agree with CLSRanch. Unless you plan to show your Cornish, that cockerel looks just fine, And as we have discussed before, if you want to show...eat what you have and buy some of those short-legged birds that frequently can't even mound a hen. Also, bred to good colored hens (not his sisters) that problem might manifest itself at all or it might crop out now and again or get progressively smaller with each generation, provided you breed away from it in future generations.

Thanks everyone, I do have an overly dark pullet to breed him to. I don't know if they are related, but they probably are so this should prove interesting!

Don't forget the silver lining, especially with Dark Cornish and Buckeyes too...you can always eat your mistakes!
