I hear ya Hellbender. It seems the "Dog of the house" always feels it's duty is to protect the birds. Or purge them from the property depending on the day...... My Rot loves to watch the cornish chicks in the brooder for hrs on end..... When free ranging the urge to herd them is sometimes too much to resist. Could you elaborate on personal protection dog?

Hellbender. That's a nice pic of the hen on fence post. I like. Unforunetly it looks like all the red tailed hawks around here waiting on a chicken. One of the things that drew me to this breed.

I will; after profound and absolute off-leash OB training, he will be conditioned to show aggression without biting, will attack on command or at the onset of provocation, such as someone grabbing my daughter, tries to car-jack...etc.

This is not a 6-week wonder class but rather a protracted and sophisticated conditioning to stimuli. It might take a year for the dog to respond safely and reliably...and he will need 'tune-ups' occasionally.

Hellbender your dog looks scary enough without all that other stuff

Here's some of my Cornish, four months old now. They seem kind of small especially the hens. They were off to a great start as young chicks but seem to be growing very slowly. Do they just get broader after a while, or are they supposed to grow taller still?
But, they are pretty heavy for their size. That's a Buckeye cockerel photo bombing the bottom picture.

Dave C, if you can, please post some pictures. It would be very interesting to see how British Cornish compare to our North American ones.

Towards Fat Daddy. Hellbenders dog is very nice and probably perfect for his place. I just want to throw out that great pyrenese or pyrenese/ mix is a good maintnence free dog. "IF" you have a large place and other livestock to protect. I've heard of rotts even being good herders.

Pyrenese if I'm spelling it right is a large feed bill. Something to consider.

Nice birds Canadian buckeye and Dave..... Im on several Cornish forums. One based out of Australia too. It's interesting to me how the same bird, bred to the same SOP, will be a little different in various areas..... All up to the eye of the breeder and the traits desired. It seems like Australians like their LF cornish a bit lankier than birds bred in this part of the world . Were we breed them to have short shanks and wide like a bull dog. Both beautiful birds.... I'd bet that the fertility rates of "Show Quality" Aussie birds is much higher than its American counterpart......

DaveC, they are lovely!

And they look huge, too especially the hens. Very nice. Fat Daddy do you thing the fertility rates are low because of the shape, or because the roosters aren't overly amorous?
