I'm curious about the red also. How was it developed?

Good Morning, LF White Laced Reds are getting hard to find at all. Bantams a littlebit easier. They were developed from Dark Cornish and Shamo. White cornish came from dark cornish and White Malay. I raised WLR for a while. I found them a maddening breed. Good ones are beautiful. They tend to hatch the full range of their color spectrum thou. Many of what are being sold as whites today, started as poor examples from WLR. They usually show a rusty bleed as they get their final molt.... Al Seminairo in OK had a good line for a while. I dont think he raises them any more. As far as table birds, you can tell no difference in the dressed bird. Whites may run slightly larger... Neither bird lays really well. My WLR were a bit more productive but they were a poor line with a questionable heritage. 2 eggs every three days is about average during a fairly short breeding season. Mine tapered off after July and nearly quit by the end of August....

Which would be better for meat, dark or white Cornish. But has anyone heard of those red laces white?

I do not have true White Laced - Red Cornish. Mine are created through genetics. WLR is nothing more than everywhere the Black should be is White.

The Great Papyrus, I will refer to you as TGP from here out. All bird people LOVE to talk about there birds. Another point. Everyone wants to teach. Its part of our makeup to want to pass on knowledge. If you reach (carefully) to people in your area I'm confident someone would help you get started. Check with your teachers at school if your still in school. The county agricultural agent is also a good source of information. Normally all that is needed is to say "Chickens?"

Put some thought into which breed you'd like. I started out with CX and dual purpose breeds.Before I knew it I had way too many birds that were not paying their way. This caused me to transition into a mainly production egg flock. The sell of eggs pays for the feed(at least it would if DW would give it to me) and allows me to have some meat chickens and other birds.

Wow, did anyone else have trouble finding this thread on the new interface? I tried searching for it but no dice.

My new pullet and cockerel finally decided they could sleep on the roost with the big chickens (provided they have a step up)! They must be growing up . The old hen seems to be happy sleeping on the bottom of the coop (well, not on the floor, up on top of the nest boxes) for now.

I am looking to buy a few LF red laced cornish. I usually try to buy from breeders, but I'm not finding many online. They are also offered through some of the hatcheries. What are your thoughts on which hatcheries have the best cornish - or I would appreciate a name/phone#/link to breeders who are producing good quality birds. Thanks!!

Good morning. As you have likely already found large fowl WLR are rare of any quality.... good ones are out numbered by unicorns and dragons.... If I were on such a quest, I'd join the Facebook groups international Cornish breeders association. And Cornish poultry SOP.... you'll still have trouble finding good LF WLR. But this would be where to start. Keep in mind there are several in these groups that are purely profit motivated... but you can see who is there to sell and who really loves the breed. There are no hatcheries with Cornish worth the trouble.... Good luck, I hope you find the good stuff! Bill

Thank you! I will join the groups and see what I can find. I am of the mindset that it takes as much space and feed to have a quality bird as it does a poor quality one. I
