Darn it!!!!! Getting ready to be down to 21

it won't hold its head up or nothing. no response. just barley alive. everyone else is running around from feeder to feeder like its Christmas.

I think the first few weeks are the worst for deaths. I had an advantage, because a friend of mine who used to raise them told me what to expect. When I told her 6 out of 50 total, she was amazed it wasn't more. In a couple of weeks, the smell and 'ugly' will cure you of the attachment, lol.

Not really attached ( maybe a little ) but not much.

When I went to bed last night there were 21 chicks left. Thank goodness when I checked on them this morning all 21 were there still

I hope I have no more deaths. I kinda feel bad because I went halves with a neighbor on these birds and I don't want a bunch dying off.

Well good news! I got home from church a little while ago and everyone is still alive!!! Yeah

Still checking on them regularly and even sitting with them. DH is going to come and find me sitting with chickens in our basement

Oh and one more thing. Thanks everyone for responding to this thread. It really menas alot that I can come on here and talk about my little chickies and get help with my troubles. No one around me knows anything about chickens and the neighbor had one guy over at his house yesterday that asked me what they were. They are chickens DUH. How can you not know what a chicken is?

Well I thought I was doing good anyway. Didn't lose any yesterday but I woke up to two dead this morining. Down to 19 birds. This sucks.... Maybe next time I will order those red broilers.

I understand. The same thing was happening to me. Everything looks fine, they're eating, drinking, running around, no stressed peeps and you go to bed. Get up in the morning to flat stretched out chicks. Discouraging.

I just this afternoon had to cull a Cornish X who went legless on me this a.m. These birds have a lot of genetic vulnerabilities. Probably not your fault.
