Hello everyone, I'm quite new at having chicken and, as my user name indicates, seem to be ending with roosters quite a bit. I got two day old chicks who ended up being roosters and after that dissapointment we decided to buy two 10 weeks "pullets". One is a light sussex and the other one a coronation sussex and after a few weeks the last one seems to be bigger that his (her ) sister and has much bigger wattles and comb. So now I'm thinking that we may have another rooster in out hands.
They are almost 17 weeks now, what do you think? I don't want my kids to get too attached again and then would prefer to be able to prepare them in case we have the dramas of rehoming again.
Thanks in advance

Some chickens in the sussex family, must somehow be tricksters, by hiding as pullets, when they are cockerels. Based on my own experience with light sussex. I am saying that the feathering and early redness in the comb point towards cockerel. Sorry hope I'm wrong.

Absolutely.
There are no male saddle feathers that I can see, and I would definitely be seeing them by now if he was a cockerel.
Plus, 16/17 weeks is pretty close to laying.
I'm positive you have two pullets.
Oh, I hope you are right!!! It's been quite hard to relocate my other two roosters, one is still looking for a home (outside of the oven) and I hate the idea of going thru that agan with another one of them.
I've been trying to find saddle feathers like the ones my leg horn has but I can't find anything that looks like that.. fingers cr

You think that this one looks like yours when they were 16 weeks, right?
