Coronation sussex 16 weeks old. Is it a she or a he?

Yes, mine also took a long time to grow out male specific feathering. Took a long time for me to see that they were in fact cockerels.

So they both ended up being Cockerels?
I was having a close look at my coronation Sussex today and I'm afraid I am seeing long pointy feathers around its neck. Still trying to deny it but I am almost positive it is a he. :(

Yours look like pullets to me.

I have two Speckled Sussexes. About 17-18 weeks. One is starting to pink up, the other is taking longer. They have a different feather pattern than my other sex links and wyandonettes. The sex links and wyandonettes have short, wide, round saddle feathers. The Sussexes are long but rounded at the end. Also, I think I remember reading somewhere on this forum that Sussexes cockerels comb up early like week 4-6 you know.

Thanks for your reply and for the photos. Your Speckled Sussex are so beautiful, and their waddle looks a lot like mine has so maybe I will find some fairy eggs soon
Have ypurs started laying already?
I will take a couple more photos of mine tomorrow, it's hard to see the shape of the feathers as they are white and the length made me worry but your girls have quite long feathers around their neck too... they are just so different than the feathers of my rode island red and my araucana!

Thank you! I am rather envious of you two lovelies. Mine haven't started laying yet. I think they will start after 20 weeks. My black sex links in the group picture are the same age as my Speckleds, and I expect them to start any day. Their wattles and combs are big and red, they are interested in the nesting boxes, and are starting to squat. My Speckleds don't care about the nesting boxes and aren't squatting.

Your Coronation 's feathers perplex me. They look a little frayed. Based on age, she should have finished the last molt between teenager and adult, so feathers should be good. I wonder if Coronations have the same problems lavenders have with feathers fraying...I think it is some genetic link with the lighter color. Regardless of why the feathers look frayed, it is the fraying that is making it difficult to determine gender. However, just considering age combined with comb and wattle size and color, I would still say pullet.

You can wait until the bird either crows or lays an egg to be sure.
