"Some Scientists Question W.H.O. Inquiry Into the Coronavirus Pandemic’s Origins

"Those who still suspect the outbreak in China may have been caused by a lab leak or accident are pressing for an independent investigation."
Richard Ebright, a molecular biologist at Rutgers University and one of the scientists who signed the letter, said it grew out of a series of online discussions among scientists, policy experts and others who came to be known informally as the Paris group. Many of those who signed the letter were based in France and Dr. Ebright, who has been outspoken about the need to investigate a possible laboratory leak, said such discussion had been less vigorous in the United States.

He said that no one in the group thought that the virus had been intentionally created as a weapon, but they were all convinced that an origin in a lab through research or by accidental infection was as likely as a spillover occurring in nature from animals to humans."

Copy and pasting only cause pretty sure you have to have a subscription to read NY Times (FWI, don't tell them.. but if you click a link/site that is subscription only that blocks, most of them this works, click, see it pops up, turn your internet or data off quick, read for free )

While the Chinese government is certainly far from transparent or honest, I don't think it serves anyone to focus on China's role in this, here in our BYC thread, IMO. Let the scientists and governments sort it out.

What's done is done and the Asian people are not at fault so let's just focus on how we best cope with what happened rather than laying blame. Accidents happen, even in the best run labs. I feel badly for the Asian population in the U.S. and elsewhere who are, in some cases, being made scapegoats and being targeted as a result.

I don't know anybody blaming anything on "Asian people", what's to blame?
Feel bad for the Asian population in the US, for what?

"The scientists and governments "
want very much to know where the origin came from, why and how.
Very important to "scientists and governments" wanting to prevent another worldwide pandemic.

When this, if this is ever over does anyone want another next year??

Or we can just believe the CCP, China, who has not allowed WHO to investigate and has publicly stated that the US military may be the one's that brought covid-19 to Wuhan.

CDC's data tracker;

As of 6 a.m. EDT April 29, a total of 305,478,495 vaccine doses had been distributed in the U.S., and 237,360,493 had been administered, or 77.7 percent. Additionally, 143,793,565 people had received at least one dose of the vaccine, and 99,668,945 had been fully vaccinated.

I'm glad you feel that way, I agree.

Sadly, though, there have been incidents of hate crimes. According to the LA Times:

Since coronavirus shutdowns began last March, thousands of Asian Americans have faced racist verbal and physical attacks or have been shunned by others, according to a study released Tuesday.

The report by Stop AAPI Hate documents 3,795 racially motivated attacks against Asian Americans from March to February, noting that the number is likely a fraction of the attacks that occurred, because many were not reported to the group.

Stop AAPI Hate formed last March in response to attacks related to the perception that Asians were responsible for the coronavirus because of its origins in Wuhan, China. The group did not collect data in previous years to show whether attacks against Asians have increased during the pandemic.

About 68% of the anti-Asian attacks documented in the study were verbal harassment, 21% were shunning and 11% were physical assaults.
