Honestly, a lot of it had to do with "I'm too old for this s#i%". They did their best, were silenced, or pushed aside. Their reward for decades of service to the American people was derision and abuse from politicians and public alike. My own mid-career lab work deals with tracking down, identifying, and stopping outbreaks of bacteria, fungi, and viruses in hospitals or illnesses caused by manufacturers cutting corners. The unofficial motto of our group is "Someone got lazy, stupid, or greedy". Our lab had specific experience with handling PII that we got tapped to handle the CoVID surge mid-summer 2020 after the scandal with the (beautifully made, but hard to use) CoVID detecting PCR kit that our respiratory diseases group had developed. There's still plenty of healthcare-associated infections to go around, and me ditching my career would be a bigger disservice to patients in the long-term.
Not adding anything important to the thread I'd just like to say, I sat in on an ICRA presentation at a hospital it didn't really pertain to me but it was a minor presentation on a larger general meeting. Anyway it was really interesting how the origins of outbreaks was found. I would like to go to more presentations or even classes on ICRA. It was just really interesting to me. Anyway carry on

But why was the public misinformed? I understand the morale of what you're trying to commit to the job but why was misinformation even allowed to occur?
Profit.
Ask a certain 'news' outlet, and the Lieutenant Governor of Texas, who suggested old people should just croak for the DOW.
Sadly, the US ditched the fairness doctrine sometime in the 80s, and 'news' devolved into infotainment, soundbites for profit.
why was it even allowed....good question.
Why were people exploiting it? (essentially lying, because they knew better. The ones elbowing their way to the front of the vaccination lines denouncing the same)

@heatherbeast Thank you for adding your perspective here and for the job you do under such difficult circumstances. ❤️

I am curious of your opinion of the origin of this virus. How this all started? Of course if you do not want to answer, I respect that too.
Good news! I can opine away all day without endangering my job, as per the Hatch Act. I keep my nose clean by not handling money for ANYONE, and also not endorsing or hating on any current candidate for office.

The virus origin was likely a wet-market. I know there has been a LOT of speculation about the Wuhan lab. Honestly, they had a couple of isolates that were logged using an older system. One would have been the equivalent of our own lab holding a 1954 specimen of

Oh haha that ended sinisterly. It was a Xanthomonas species that is now classified as a biological warfare/terror agent because of how badly it destroys certain crops. We documented its discovery, and signed off on autoclaving it.

I find it interesting you believe it came from a wet market. I don’t but I don’t have all credentials you have.

Thank you!
Have recently read about Xanthomonas species as I am an avid gardener and always seeing little spots on plants in our heat and humidity it's hard to know what they are bacterial or fungal. lol Never occurred to me something like that could be used as a bio-weapon.

As for the wet market theory, I am surprised to see you think so although I know it is a real possibility. I recently read these
https://www.help.senate.gov/imo/media/doc/report_an_analysis_of_the_origins_of_covid-19_102722.pdf

and

I take these to be official. If someone knows otherwise please tell me.
They do not draw a real conclusion other than to me they appear to "lean" toward a lab accident. They end by saying unless more evidence is released by China or more investigations are allowed that a lab accident appears most plausible. It goes into detail about why they believe this.

My interest in the origin is mostly just my curiosity and the mystery. I also think they best way to better prepare for the next pandemic is understanding as much as possible about all previous ones. I've read everything I can find relating and periodically do new searches to see if more has been learned.

I appreciate very much your opinion.

I also question your wet market theory when clearly fauci was funding gain of function research in that Wuhan laboratory. He was interviewed by Congress regarding it. The only thing I read in the "wet market" theory is that it was most likely from a pangolin. The sale and illegal trade of pangolins is strictly against the law in China. The Chinese also distinctly prefer the African pangolins
