Please be careful shopping at Trader Joes. There are a lot of strikes happening in their company because their employees are paid less than a competitive wage (with no hazard pay), they are not given paid sick leave and they do not get any PPE. I know a few people planning on participating in this strike. Some Trader Joes are making it very hard for sick people who could be handling your groceries to stay home because their employees do not have the means to stay home. This is one of the few times they have the power to be able to strike and actually have a positive result, one that lets them stay home when they're sick not only in a crisis but also the rest of the time too so you don't get Corona now or the flu later.

If there's a strike picket line and you'd like your grocers to be able to afford to not get you sick, consider another grocery chain if you can. Make sure you wash things well when you get home if you can't chose somewhere else.
Not too much of a problem in Massachusetts because of our state labor laws and regulations.

I've read this entire thread over the last several days, and It seems I've come to kinda know some of you, so I have a story for y'all …..

I have 3 dogs, and I give them their heartworm meds religiously every month. My longtime (since 2010) vet knows me, and knows my dogs are some of the best treated animals around.

I gave them their last HW treatment 2 weeks ago, and now I'm completely out, so I called this morning, asking them to mail me some, and they insist I bring them in for a checkup.

I said NO, I'm not leaving my farm, on my doctors orders I might add, (I have several underlying conditions) and could they please make an exception due to the circumstances. She said NO !!! She said it was illegal to do so, and would put the dogs in danger.

What about my danger ???

I even offered to pay her regular charges, on top of the price of the meds, and she still wouldn't budge.

I understand that if doses are skipped, it can be a danger to the dogs, but I assured her they have NOT missed a dose.

She basically said she would rather have them not take the HW meds, as opposed to her giving them without the check up, and script !!!

I won't go into detail, but I lost it !!! Told her to take a flying f--- at the moon, and I would find another vet.

She's called my twice since, and I refuse to answer her call. I'm sooooo mad !!!!!

Well, I looked up what the FDC has to say, and basically what I got out of it is it's up to the vet to decide. Heck, my doctor waived the rules for MY 9 prescription meds, and went ahead and sent me 90 day supplies of all of them, even though I'm due for a mandatory visit !!!

I found a generic medicine online with no prescription, so I'm goin with that for now.

Sorry, I had to vent, or explode !!!

Take a look into some deep scientific research:
https://www.nature.com/articles/s41368-020-0074-x

"...The expression and distribution of the ACE2 in human body may indicate the potential infection routes of 2019-nCoV. Through the developed single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-Seq) technique and single-cell transcriptomes based on the public database, researchers analyzed the ACE2 RNA expression profile at single-cell resolution. High ACE2 expression was identified in type II alveolar cells (AT2) of lung10,11,12, esophagus upper and stratified epithelial cells, absorptive enterocytes from ileum and colon12, cholangiocytes13, myocardial cells, kidney proximal tubule cells, and bladder urothelial cells10. These findings indicated that those organs with high ACE2-expressing cells should be considered as potential high risk for 2019-nCoV infection10... "

When you first posted the question, my immediate response was well...shouldn't everyone be washing their hands well after using the restroom anyway?? 🤢
It was an inner thought that seemed best to keep to myself.

I did see a blip somewhere today that it was found in a child through rectal swabs.
And I know one of the positive cases from ship off Japan, an American, was taken to, cared for and quarantined at UNO (Univ. Neb.)and participated in some studies where a daily rectal swab was part of the study. So perhaps they are putting together more pieces of the puzzle.

I named my starter “Hooch.” Only sourdough people can understand why this is an appropriate name. LOL! If I neglect Hooch for a couple of weeks I add a little yeast when I feed him. It perks him up right away. Sourdough waffles are awesome. And sourdough bread is better for diabetics because it is low on the glycemic scale.
*sigh*...I miss the days of being able to consume gluten.
I used to keep a starter and yep...Hooch fits. :D

Vent away!
I think several of us have lost it a time or two over the pages here.... and by what we are having to go through.

Yeah, 40 hours of paid sick leave and a $12 minimum wage helps. They probably still don't have PPE, but it does seem like MA *requires* a minimum standard. My state and others don't and minimum wage here is abysmal ($8.55/hr). I will note 40 hours will cover you for one week. COVID usually takes at least two weeks quarantine.

I know Costco gives minimum 72hours sick leave annually, and currently wholefoods is giving 2 weeks PTO for corona related illness ON TOP of their already decent PTO policy.
