Yea. Maybe a glass of wine! Face it , we are not the scientists discussing. I think we all get pretty heated and do not post alot of stuff that is not allowed here. That's life! :thumbsup
This wasn't even about science... This was a thread for everyone to discuss how they were managing with corona virus now it's a 💩 show

I don't really understand how the health care system works in the USA.
Here in Europe and in the UK it's primarily a state system. The problem here is the state hasn't invest enough in the system and in certain countries, encouraged private concerns.
We, the voters, can't do much about disease. It's natural and it happens and has been happening throughput history. What we can do is try to ensure our health care systems are capable of responding to epidemics and as our populations life expectancy increases, take this into account in our health care provision.
Apparently there isn't a shortage of money. What there is is a shortage of commitment.
My hope is, although I believe it is a hope in vain, is that we will learn from this epidemic and invest in health care.
My view is still that the total lock downs being seen in many countries is not the right policy.
Better to isolate the most vulnerable to this virus and let those least likely to suffer from serious illness from the virus go to work. Many millions are likely to contract the virus but it is a life threatening disease to a comparatively small section of the population. These are the people we need to protect and from past experience and current medical knowledge we know who is in the high risk category.
There are lots of harrowing stories in the media already. There will no doubt be many more.
But, if one reads the statistics and the scientific evidence gathered so far, we are not all going to die from Covid-19.
China has a population of roughly 3.4 billion people out of which three thousand two hundred and eighty seven have died to date from Covid-19. This is a very small number relative to the population.
This is the current data.

I don't think it's just me, but I wouldn't believe anything that came out of China. They could tell me the sun came up and I'd verify it. Add the press stirring everything up, they so love ratings and dirty laundry, during an election year and there you go.

I'm the same way with them. If I can't see it with my own eyes I want to verify it.

Only 1 confirmed case near me...someone that had been travelling abroad. I am in SW VA, near the NC border. Thank heavens cows are not transmitters....I am surrounded by them. There is no TP ( thanks favorite son to alerting me to the shortage) few cleaning products, no hand sanitizer or Aloe to make your own. I care for 2 seniors in my home....both have cancer. So I have the cancer center crawling all over me to bring them in.....both are stable, it's more about revenue. I did work outside the home....Store/restaurant/ inn...the latter 2 are closed so I am out of work. I'm so happy to have my new 'girls' and a great project building their coop. I stay home as much as I can....but sometimes I just have to go for a store run. I feel bad for folks that still live where I moved here from....New England. My younger son is there....in CT near NY and NJ. I use social media and phone to stay in touch. Stay safe everyone!!!!!!

It doesn't matter whether or not I hate Trump. It matters that, because he is President, we all have to depend on him.

It also doesn't matter who likes me, who gets me kicked off of
BYC, who is comfortable or uncomfortable with what I have to say.
What matters -- the ONLY thing that matters -- is who's here to say what and a##hole I was and who's mourning their losses when this is all over and what we could have done to increase one number and decrease the other.

Closing your eyes and not listening to the news is NOT HELPFUL. Yes, all caps.
I understand your concern over the situation. Perhaps if you'd just say that and not add the political bit you'd get a more positive response. I don't think anyone wants you kicked off BYC. I don't anyway.

Watching too mich news can also be a detriment. This cannot be allowed to consume us or we'll be at each others throats when we can be supportive and help each other.

FYI, my dad is 90 years old and just last year had valley fever and pneumonia at the same time. My mom has a pacemaker. My husband has had asthma his entire life and has possibly been exposed to the virus at work. We're still waiting to find out. My daughter is a 911 dispatcher and her boyfriend is a medic. We all have worries in our personal lives that make us anxious about this. Let's just not take it out on each other.

FWIW, I'm not all happy with how this was handled either. I hope you have a better day and find some peace of mind. :hugs
