I keep seeds from year to year in original packaging and if kept cool and dry, they don't lose a lot of viability.
There are a lot of sources of good heirloom seed varieties.
https://www.rareseeds.com/?SID=1a22a07ca69a605642851f434f7264abhttps://sustainableseedco.com/https://www.seedsofchange.com/There are lots of others including Sandhill Preservation in Iowa.
I order from others also but I really like Baker Creek, their varieties are awesome.
Last year I ordered from Seed Savers Exchange and I really liked them. Usually I just buy in store. I had done a lot of research though and came across many of the other companies but SSE seemed like a good one to me and they were. :)

yeah I would use it for smoothies. The only reason I know about kale turning brown after freezing it is because that's how I used to keep my chickens kale from going bad in the fridge.

That’s disappointing. :( oh well, I see lots of smoothies in my future LOL

You should just grow your own kale in your own vegetables so that you don't have to waste money on them.

Yeah probably a good idea!! But I don’t think my parents will ever stop wasting money on veggies lol They always do this yet always still buy more 😂

I don’t like kale that much and they don’t either so really not sure why they bought so much of it. May have to give some to the chickens or do the smoothie thing.

Ummm mandatory? People can't not work for that long
It's almost like our system wasn't built to withstand a serious crisis with human needs in mind or something.... :T

In any case, stay at home orders can always be lifted early if we get a flat curve, enough testing kits to monitor the population, or a vaccine. Now that people are acclimating to the fact that these orders are in place it's probably better to plan to mitigate peoples expectations by planning for the worst and hope for the best. We don't know when things will get rushed through or start to settle down. Many places haven't hit their peak yet.

It's not mandatory though. It's an order but you can still go for a ride and socialize as long as you're not in a group more than 10.

They said for work, food, medical reasons, and exercise you can leave home.

I mean, people can largely do that now. G goes to work every day. D is out shopping at home depot for a bunch of stuff we need right now.

I'm not sure if any of you discussed this, but have any of you guys seen how crazy everyone is going over buying chicks! The other day I went with the family to try and get some Australorps, but it was such a mission! It seems everyone is trying to start a flock like it's the end of the world! It kind of worries me, because despite the tons of info there is on raising chicks, there are always people who won't read. I have a feeling a lot of chicks are going to be dieing off in people's brooders 😒😞

@FortCluck The thing is you want to be over prepared, if this pandemic lasts longer and doesn't spread rappidly, less lives and resources will be lost!

I saw that Barcelona was one of the hotspots in Spain. How is the rest of Catalonia?
I don't think anyone knows. There is no random testing being carried out so nobody really has any idea what the infection rate is. Only those who have symptoms are being tested as far as I know.
Judging from the statistics that are available the speed of the virus spread is the major problem and for those who isolate and carry out basic hygiene practices as advised the risk is considerably lowered. However, being a Catholic Mediterranean country social distancing is not something that many find easy. Many are still going to church despite the warnings and the government does not have the will to shut them.
We also have a high percentage of people over the age of sixty.
The main problem however is lack of investment in the health system and lack of coordination in the political management structure.
The lockdowns just didn't get implemented quickly enough.
A further problem is Catalonia depends heavily on the tourist industry and this employs a lot of people. Despite the governments rhetoric money is not getting to a large percentage of the people who work in the tourist industry. In Italy the lack of provision for the poorer section of society has already resulted in civil unrest. Given the virus isn't going to go away for many month possibly I expect to see civil unrest problems here. You can't force people out of work and then not give them money to live on and not expect problems. Of course any civil unrest is likely to involve groups of people in close contact and new infection wave is likely.

I am over prepared 😂 I have fertile duck eggs laid daily, fertile chicken eggs laid daily... Now I'm going to do quail once I get the eggs.

I'm doing my gardens and I'm going to make sure I'm on top of gardening this year so that Im getting every bit of food I can.

I think it's easier to be vegan through this pandemic because produce can be found everywhere, but you can rarely find any meat here.
