Sequel, I always like reading your Bla Bla Bla's. so never stop interjecting them! Many years ago a friend gave me a copy of a New York Times magazine that was about influenza. They explained the viruses mutated and/or multiplied as a result of being passed between people, ducks and pigs.
In developing flu vaccine yearly, they watch what’s emerging in China because that’s where the largest concentration of people are living closely with those species. It’s a best guess yearly because vaccine takes time to produce and what shows up isn’t necessarily the strain that looked promising at first.
Consumer Reports magazine had an issue a couple months back dealing with the contamination of food here in the USA. As far as greens go, most if not all were attributed to large CAFOs in the vicinity where runoff contaminated the water. Even dust blown was capable of contaminating with E. coli apparently.
The latest information I’ve seen recently about the 1918 influenza pandemic says it started in Kansas in hastily built military encampments probably contaminated by hog poop. Since there was a war going on the media weren’t allowed to report it to the public. Spain which was neutral then reported it so it got the name. There was a very good documentary on PBS last week about this. Also one on WWI which touched on it.
Sorry big blah blah blah. I don’t even know if I have a point to make, maybe just that I think this is not lab related. Too many animals and people in close quarters with poor sanitation. Throw in global travel and Bob’s your uncle! The response to this is another story. I think truth and transparency is best. That’s going to be a continuing problem.
