Idk. @Kiki got in my head I guess 😂🤣🙈

But it wasn’t really even because of that or cause she’s right or anything. I know I could do it. And I want to eventually. Really. But I also just realized I don’t really want to have to feed 30 or 40 birds or have a coop way up in the middle of nowhere or totally separate flocks 🤣😂 it’s a long walk up to where I wanted this coop haha

I honestly might still get some CX or quail or something though because I really do want meat birds and to try it but I don’t really need like 10 extra layers and honestly, oddly, I think I’m far more likely to do the butchering than I am to actually sell any eggs 😂🤣

So I couldn’t really justify adding that many more layers especially when I already added some new birds with these chicks haha

So yeah.

I’m just trying to go to sleep before I order quail immediately because they take up faaaaaaarrrrrrr less room 😂🤣🙈

I honestly would start small like quail then go to meat chickens. I did it backwards because I already had chickens and I got the roosters because the place messed up on their vent sexing or gave me the wrong order.

Yeah, that’s why I thought I wanted to because I currently have chickens and did one but I think it’d probably be easier to start smaller. Plus they probably eat far less and can be set up far faster than an entire coop 🤣😂 even though I already have the coop. We’d have to figure out how to get if up there too which would be a pain. Cages are pretty easy 😂🤣

But I’m not gonna do or get anything right now. I’m just going to focus on the garden and chicks and new coop for a while haha

And besides, I could always eventually just hatch Jack’s babies for meat birds and more layers!! Although maybe not with the possible Mereks but still. I can keep them totally separate.

This stay at home thing is making me crazy. I used to get out once a week, now it's once a month. Not enough. Plus no chicken swaps or sales, so the chicks are piling up! Luckily there's a good demand. Selling some today.

I am really sorry about your chicken and I am glad you are able to bring her into the house and I truly hope she recovers but Red was fine outside. He had a lot of warm, comfy, clean pine shavings to bed down into and I actually think he would have been more stressed by being in a strange environment inside. Also it would have potentially exposed my brand new chicks that were less than a week old at the time.
First off, friend. I never judged you for What you did with RED. Most of my comments were aimed at making or attempting friendly punns. I'm very sorry for your loss of RED.
Secondly, I don't expect anyone to handle their pets (feathered or furred) the way I do. My life isn't "Kittens and rainbows" but as for true friends, I have very few, and I made my chickens my family. Confession: My own three children are afraid of me due to an ugly divorce. My children know full well the power I still hold in government. Reason for the divorce was I wanted a bigger more comfortable home for us all, X wife would not back me up on that. Nor would she back up my aspirations for a mayoral position in southern Ca. That's why I left and moved to DC. Closer to my main USMS office!
Just don't think i'm judging you about Red.

I can eat 'em (not off'em, but eat 'em!) but only if I don't know which one is which. So, everything has to packaged by part, not by bird. With a whole bag of drumsticks, no one knows whose was which was what's ... so it works. I haven't eaten any I've raised, yet (not enough space) but I've eaten those I've tended. I know it's not the same, but it's the closest I'll get unless I can move!
I stopped eating chicken all together!

She's in the house with me now! I will never leave a sick pet out in the cold and dark! Yes she's weak, but still alive!

I am very sorry she is still so poorly feeling. :hugs

Timing was bad too. July arrival meant November processing at the earliest which is cold and miserable.

I have missed you all. Haven’t been online much because my two small kids take much of my free time and recently they have renounced naps (mostly). I’m an introvert, designed for sheltering in place. As long as I have my family, animals, and garden, i’m content. I dearly miss church and visiting my parents. The news is distressing. For a while, my hospital (behavioral health) was threatening to “redeploy us to areas of need” and “to discipline us if we refused.” I worked in med-surg for 4 years, but it was a miserable experience at its best, and I’m years out of practice. Anyway the threat seems to have dissipated for the moment. I ordered some chicks for June so we have something fun to look forward to. Seriously contemplating getting some goats—not sure what breed. Should get meat goats for practical reasons, but I like the looks of Nigerian dwarfs (milk goats). Perhaps I’ll just make them pets. Probably I’m too much of a wuss to eat them anyway. My SIL breeds guinea hogs—seriously contemplating them too. At any rate, projects are good. The news is bad. I hope all of you are well and staying safe.

No, I didn’t.

I never heard back from them and I probably should have called them but I was kind of worried I messed up the sample anyway since I didn’t really check it today and it’s been kind of a while. worried it’s too old now or that I didn’t store it right or whatever. So I decided that I’d just treat it as if he is positive which is maybe stupid but I’m like pretty sure that’s what it was since he had so many symptoms and he wasn’t vaccinated. I might try to do it myself in the morning though if possible.
I just realized that I only just did it yesterday (I guess now the other day??) at like 5:00 so it really probably would have been fine to mail it today. :barnie I’m such an idiot!! I think this Claritin stuff is screwing with my memory or sense of time or something because all day, I seriously, honestly, thought it had been a lot longer than it had. I was thinking it had already been an entire day and was like day 2 already. yesterday feels like forever ago to me.
It's not too late. Think about how long a pack of meat stays good in the fridge.
You can still contact a local vet about testing because they might have a faster in with the state lab, or be able to direct you where to go/who to contact directly.
