I know my partner - native NYer - is pretty effected by it. He was in primary school near by when it happened and everything went on lockdown there. He still remembers how upsetting it was ofc.
I was pretty wee still and spent the day playing Uno with my mom - I guess she really wanted a distraction and a board-game obsessed kid was perfect for it. The TV was on in the background all day and I just wasn't paying much attention. Two years later I took an early clickbait "what's your darkest secret" quiz and got the result "You played Uno on 9/11! Whatever else happened that day, you spent it goofing off and honestly had a pretty good time.". Kinda wigged me out.
The war that followed was pretty devastating though and hit closer to home. I knew several people who ended up fighting in it because they were in the military for financial reasons and regretted every moment. It went on so long that people who were just kids like me at the time ended up fighting in it. It was a damn shame and we should work to build healthier, more peaceful relations world-wide so it never happens again. Our nation should always be a force for good whenever we can make it so.
Edit; A cousin of mine posted today "I want people to remember the ripples, not just the stone". I feel like I have that same energy today, and I hope other people can do just that.
