How did you contract Covid? Where did it come from? Did you wear a mask? Did you use hand sanitizer? Now if you tell me you did all these things but still contracted the virus you’ll be admitting the measures have done nothing to stop the spread. If you didn’t take those precautions and contracted the virus why not?
I did take all those measures yes. And I still contracted it. HOWEVER, it isn't because those things don't work for people with normal immune systems. It's because those things are not 100% effective for people LIKE ME. Ya know, those people that the measures are to protect. Immune compromised individuals can get sick from things that WOULD NOT make YOU sick.

There's a disconnect in your understanding, perhaps in several different places in this issue, but we might get to the bottom of them all eventually.

So you stayed home and contracted Covid because you had people over that didn’t stay home? Doesn’t that defeat the purpose of staying home in the first place? That’s not even practical.

There’s no disconnect the burden is on you not me to keep you safe. Same as the burden for my brother is on him and me because I’m his caregiver. I have done the best I could under the circumstances and still continue to do so to keep him healthy.

In case anyone else is struggling with cognition around "HoW DOeS The MAsK stAHp It IF yOU got SicK WeArinG iT!?" here's a picture. Words not needed. :)

YOUR mask doesn't stop YOU from getting sick, it stops OTHER people from getting your spit on them. All it takes is one nose-hanging-out suggestively by a delivery person or a shopper at a grocery store to infect you but it still works well even when implemented poorly. Which is why masked counties have 50% fewer new cases per day than unmasked counties - but noncompliance is why they don't have 100% spread reduction or even the 80% suggested possible by the CDC.

That's why it's OK if I drive drunk. ;) And have open burn piles in my front lawn. LAWS CAN'T STOP ME! That'd be illegal.

No, I contracted covid because no matter what, you still have to come into contact with other people in order to survive. There's no amount of precautions that one can take and still not be at some risk, however, that doesn't mean we should not be still taking the steps to lower those risks.

You have continued to do so because you have been lucky thus far. Not because what you are doing is effective. I truly hope you do not have to find out how blatantly wrong you truly are. (And I hope that because I am a decent person, and I do not feel my responsibility of caring for other humans stops outside of my front door.)

We have a mask mandate in effect here. I do wear a mask in buildings and when around people. How did I get sick then if everyone is wearing masks? Why do the cases keep rising?

You have no idea if I’m wrong or not. Stating you think I’m wrong is merely your opinion. Thank you for mentioning that you will always be at risk. That’s obvious. What do you propose everyone should do then? Stay home? Not go to work? Work but wear masks? Close every business because people might come into contact with each other?

Because not everyone is wearing masks, nor are they wearing them effectively. Do you understand why folks are frustrated now? Or do we need to continue to repeat the same information several times while you argue the same recycled misinformation in different ways?
