Correct Sulfer product to use on chickens

Warning about Sulfur use with chickens. Looking online, searching for a natural harmless way to deal with feather and or depluming mites it might seem that a mixture of coconut oil and sulfur powder AKA "pig oil" might be a good way to go, similar to a product NUStock, without the pine oil, which says it's harmless to animals. Well let me tell you, "pig oil" killed one of my chickens and I'm hoping the rest of the flock pulls through! Though they don't look great. If you use NuStock do so sparingly! While a small amount of sulfur can be effective for killing mites a large amount will kill them, and they can ingest too much preening it off of themselves. If you use a sulfur dip of somesort, make sure you rinse them off all the way and if you use coconut oil to smother the mites, make sure not to mix sulfur with the oil or they'll ingest too much, preening it off, causing neurological problems among other issues and possible death.
What kind of sulfur did you use? Usually 99% pure elemental sulfur is recommended.
