I have a chicken that has Coryza (sores, really bad stench, mucus, etc) and I'm wondering if its best to cull the whole flock and start over again. I'm really frustrated because they all started laying 2 weeks ago and it seems like I've been waiting forever for eggs!

I've separated the one but it looks like there may be others (sores, but no smell). What would you suggest?

Treat the worst ones and closely watch the others. I hope you can save them!!!! I think it's Tylan you are supposed to use. Better check first I could be wrong...no experience with Coryza myself. You'll be without eggs for a few weeks, but it may save them. Good luck!! Sorry you are having such a hard time!!

CORYZA in my opinion is one of the worst diseases chickens can get. I myself had a hen when I very first got into chickens with it, (I didnt know at the time what it was) and I doctored her for over a month with no improvement , then I found BYC and found out what it was and I decided to cull her, I had kept her seperate luckily and was able to contain it. I'd cull the ones that are showing signs and watch the others closely and clean everything really good if they was are on the ground I'd dig a few inches up and do away with it.. Also I'd try to find out where it came from. Did you bring any new birds in ? or go to someone elses house that has chickens.? Once they get over coryza and thats if they do they WILL BE CARRIERS... So my advice is to cull... unless your never going to bring in any new birds, or sale them or their eggs for hatching. Sorry your goin through this I know how aggravating it can be ..

I didn't bring in any new birds or anything... that's what I can't figure out. The one with it really bad is 7 months old and just started laying. Could mosquitoes have done it?

I've already culled 4 and it looks like 2 more obviously have some of the signs. I have a bad feeling that I'm going to have to eliminate the whole flock. Bummed about this whole thing is an understatement.

I've got a bunch of 1 week of chicks in a brooder and I hope I didn't spread it to them by handling the chickens and then going in and handling them...

I've been researching this and cannot figure this out. I have not introduced a new bird to my flock in months. In fact, it's been about 4 months. But these signs from the disease have just appeared over the last week or so. Could it have been dormant that long and just now showing up? Or could it have been spread from sparrows that got into the coop and drank from the water and such?

Before you cull your whole flock, I'd cull just the sick one and send it to your nearest diagnostic lab for a necropsy. It's not very expensive and you could save a lot of time and effort if you know what is wrong and therefore how to treat it.
