So I found a little sparrow today, it's eyes swollen and just generally gross. This hasn't been the first one I've found like this, in the past I've found maybe four more with the same symptoms. If it were a chicken, I'd say it were Coryza. Can wild birds get Infectious Coryza? The only thing that didn't fit, was that upon closer inspection the eyes weren't just swollen, the eye ball itself had been ripped to pieces. So I thought perhaps the sparrows are just fighting. I've seen them fighting pretty brutally lately, maybe they're aiming for each others' eyes and this poor little thing was the end result. It did have a few scrapes on its head too. Whatever it was, I left it be. I didn't want to risk spreading it to my chickens if it were a disease by touching it. Nature will take its course. I did shoo it to the top of the tree where it would be safe for the night at least. Any thoughts? Are sparrows really that mean to each other? lol
