cost to raise

In my latest experience Chukars grow about twice as fast as bobwhites, eating about same or not much more feed.

Coturnix are the fastest growers, but they will never reach size of Chukars, which will reach 1lb+ in 12 weeks, and close to 1 1/2 lb in 20 weeks.

Also most people would say Chukar or bob,s meat is superior to coturnix, I did not compare all three side by side but I will soon, have some male Chukars of butchering size and bunch of coturnix, also friend of mine will contribute a few Butler bobwhites, so we'll have a gourmee cookout and game meat tasting feast.

You must document your gourmet game tasting feast with pictures, video and smell-a-vision!!! WOW, that would be a feast!

Can do all but smell-a-vision! LOL

Even if I could people have different preferences and taste.

Saying that Bob,s meat is better than Coturnix does not prove anyting, it is a matter of subjectivity of one's aquired taste/palate.

But in my case I will probably limit myself to raising only 1 or most 2 of those species to make things simpler after this tasting contest/experiment.

You hit the nail on the head here my friend! Saying any kind of meat is better than another is a total value judgment, and there is no accounting for another persons taste.
This is why I advise people that want to raise any animal for meat; raise what ever animal they think is the most tasty to them.

As far as game birds go, they all have their up sides and down sides. They also have their human cheerleaders, but in the end, the choice is yours.

Personally, I raise only coturnix. They fit my bill quite nicely. I may expand to other species in the future, but right now, that's what I got. They serve me quite well...for over 3 years now. Wow! How time flys.

I would love to be invited to a game bird taste off! I would even supply the coturnix meat. I would just have one simple rule: They all must be cooked the same way. Salt, pepper, flower, and pan fried until done! If it don't taste good to me like that...There is no amount of herbs and spices, pressure cooker, grill, smoker, slow cooker, or anything else that will make them taste better. (It's a ME thing).

this is so true, just like I like white meat of a chicken other like the dark meat. Would be nice if I like corturnix meat better than bobs, they sure get to butcher size faster.

So yes its up to your taste, or who your selling the meat too.....

Yup! A coturnix is not a substitution for a bob....If what you really want to eat, or sell is bobs! Raise them bobs! (In GA. Permits many, money more).

You will get no argument from me. I don't care how difficult, nor how many permits, or what ever it takes to raise the species of your choice. I do know this....settling for anything brings no satisfaction!

If you want my analysis of bobs verses coturnix, then ask the right question and I will supply the best answer based on my knowledge.
