cotton patch geese

I purchased Cotton Patches from Flip Flop Ranch www.flipflopranch.com and they are awesome birds. They breed for non-aggressiveness so you don't have to worry about them biting, assuming you raise them right. They claim that even with a lack of attention the birds are still not aggressive.

I live in southern california but it gets down to -20 at night in the winter. My geese have never had the slightest problem with the cold, wind, rain, snow or heat (it also gets up to 120 in the summer).

Good to know, thanks! I'm not sure which breed we're going to go with, if any, but I would lean towards a heritage breed like the cottons. We're all about preservation! We even tried to get an 1840's farm house, but it wasn't in very good shape, and because of damage in the outbuildings, we couldn't find a bank that would write a mortgage on it. Given the extent of it though, I can understand why-the whole foundation of the main barn was basically gone on the right side corner (the main post on that side was rotted/eaten at least a foot up from the ground and the roof line was pretty wavey). Banks have gotten so picky!

As said before, Tom Walker has very reasonable prices on cotton patch goslings, but you have to order them in large quantities for shipping (10+). I do not know his availability as of right now, because I reserved my 10 in February. I am very excited for them!

I just wanted to update everyone on happenings in the cotton patch world. Tom has decided to retire from breeding geese and I've inherited his breeding gaggle. I just got home from a grueling trip from California to Texas and back where everything bad that could happened did. We broke down three times, including once when our vehicle was full of geese! But we made it and now I have tons of pens full of gorgeous Cotton Patch geese. I put together a website (www.cottonpatchgeese.com) on the geese where I'd like to collect information so that more people can become aware of this beautiful breed. People can buy goslings on the website too. The ranch I run (www.flipflopranch.com) is a nonprofit that helps preserve heritage livestock like the CPGs and it also is home to a program for abused women to get back on their feet. The women help raise the geese and other animals and what they sell goes to buying them a car, deposit on an apartment, etc. Anyhow, thought you guys might be interested.

Since you say 3 clutches is it safe to assume that you remove eggs for artificial incubation? otherwise I would think the laying, brooding the eggs, and raising the goslings would make for a very busy goose?
