Cotton Patch Geese?

Gorgeous but never had them.

They were bred to be extremely nice. Any aggressive birds are culled from a true breeder's program.

They are EXCELLENT fliers.

How are these geese? Nice? Can they fly a lot? Thinking of getting a pair if I can find them!

Cotton Patch are wonderful - they are smaller then most breeds of goose, around 11 pounds at maturity, and this attributes to their excellent flying ability. The highest mine have ever got was around 30 feet, and the furthest maybe 100. I clip their wings after they molt and they can't get off the ground, so the flying can be easily taken care of.

They are good grazers and weeders, partially due to their small size (they don't trample the crops they are supposed to be weeding as readily).

They are more docile in general then most geese, but that depends a lot on how you raise them. They are still geese.

If you want Cotton Patch geese try contacting Serina Harvey of Flip Flop Ranch. The website is www.flipflopranch.com. She is great at answering your questions, too. She can put you on the wait list to get geese in the spring (hopefully, if the wait list is not too full). I don't have any yet, but I am thinking about it. My dad can remember when Cotton Patch geese were used to weed cotton fields when he was young (he's now a young 87), so I think he would get a charge out of it if I could get a pair.

I just got started with Welsh Harlequin ducks this spring, so I'm waiting to see how that works out before I jump into raising geese, too!

Great! I would love to hear how you get on with them. If you still want more information about them, there is good information on the Flip Flop Ranch website, and Serina Harvey would be happy to answer any questions you have. From what I have seen on various websites they can be very friendly and will climb up in your lap for some loving. And, being smaller than some of the huge breeds of geese these should be easier to handle.

OOOOH!  I'm so jealous!!  Where were you able to get them?

I was able to find a lady that had bouggt out a bunch of Tom Walkers lines down south from me about a 6 hour drive there and back. She also bought lines from David James! She has been breeding them!
Were from Northern Wisconsin. The lady was from down past Madison :) Her names Paula she knows sierna.

They are just gorgeous geese!

Ours could fly, but don't ever bother getting out. They have a large field and prefer to stay in the fence. They aren't noisy or aggressive, it's great. We have a young male we will be selling because of his orange beak and feet. Would you be interested?
