Oh, mine are commercial parrot cages with a solid metal tray and a removeable wire floor. They're just in the trays with shavings now.

How much do quail scratch? I have some yoga mat-type material that I was thinking about using over the wire flooring inserts that came with this hutch along with sand or shavings over that, but if quail are as destructive with their scratching as chickens are, I don’t want them tearing it up and ingesting it...thoughts?

Some of my serama are close in size to the cortunix; there is no comparison-the serama dig/scratch much more than the quail, however, the post above is right. Do not use a material that is suspect. Better to get something you KNOW is safe.
