I hang a head of cabbage in my chicken run to keep them busy. Can you do the same for coturnix? I would probably put it in a suet bird feeder for them to pick at. Maybe it doesn't matter for quail as far as bullying. I hope this won't be considered a ridiculous question I just see quail running back and forth in cages on all the videos and can't help but wonder if this wouldn't help. It could be any type of green such as kale or what have you. Just asking! Thanks

Mine wouldn't touch it. They do like sweet corn, though. They get the cobs AFTER we are through with them.

Keeps 'em busy!

Thanks for your reply. Sweet corn sounds great I guess it all depends on what your quail like kinda like people.

My quail are spoiled pets, but they don't like treats much. They do like a bit of thistle seed meant for finches & love sweet corn. I wouldn't give much, though. It's not healthy in large quantities. The bit they get off our already eaten supper is okay, though.

They also like to scratch around in a handful of hay or cut grass (no chemicals or sprays on our property). Mine won't touch any bread products AT ALL. They will leave them in for days. They feel the same about pumpkin...

i got a head of cabbage hanging in my bobwhite pen after someone told me it helps keep them from pecking each other all though it hasnt work 100% it did seem to do a pretty good job enough that im going to keep adding one every few weeks.

We give our Coturnix clover as a treat most often.

I'm curious about the suet idea. We raise beef cattle and always get fat back from the processor. We use it as suet for the wild birds in Winter, and grind it to make venison hamburger, etc. I could share with the quail. Any comments/advice on that?

they said suet HOLDER..... i don't think that suet would be at all good for your quail .

i give my coturnix apples, greens and broccoli which are all very nutritious . Also occasional mealworms or regular worms as a special protein treat...

So far, the only treats I have found my little guys to like are hard-boiled eggs and lettuce - oak-leaf, romaine, and spinach so far. They LOVE it so much that I don't even get to wedge it in the door to the cage before they are jumping around snatching bits right out of my hand!

They disliked strawberry and blueberry - didn't touch it at all. Well, except to stand in it and poop.
