I’ve ordered some Coturnix Quail Eggs for hatching, so we’re needing to build a habitat. We want to build an aviary. The side of our house has a little run we think would be perfect to place this. Is there any minimum parameters we need to watch out for? I know the ceiling needs to be 6’+. What I’m really asking about is the width. We have about 3’ to work with.

Therefore, aviary will be about 10’x3’ with a 6’ ceiling. Any concerns with this? We’ll keep around 15-30 quail.

You can't have too much space. For an aviary setting, you want at least 1 square foot per bird. Don't forget to subtract the space you're using of hiding places, feeders, waterers, and dirt bath.

Oh, I didn’t even consider subtracting all of those things. So is it a bad idea to clutter the entire area with shrubs, hideouts, rocks and tunnels?

That makes sense, but also complicates the math haha. I ordered 30 eggs so I’m expecting 1/2 of those to hatch. Then we’ll process the extra males for food when the time comes. Guess we will try to wing it and see what happens. We’ll incubate more eggs when they start producing. Worse case scenario we can process more quail if living quarters become to populated.
