Hi,
The fawn gold is a variety on it's own, just like the fawn is. They are a combination of both gold and fawn. When they are bred, the normal black feathers of the gold, have been replaced by fawn.
I've bred them in Cinnamon and platinum (this bird looks very simular to the Normal type cream), but I'm sure you could breed them in both silver and cream too.
The males of both cinnamon and fawn golds are striking looking birds, and look totally different from normal golds.
(byvail quote) I know in rabbits, reds, oranges, and fawns are all the same basic genotype - it is color modifiers called ''rufus'' that make them look different by how intense the color is. Just makes me wonder if it could be the same in these intriguing little quail!
I believe you could be right on this, I've been thinking the same way myself for months now. Not knowing much about genentics or have enough experiance on colour breeding, I don't know yet.
The pattern here seems to be, Normal, Cinnamon and fawn or, Platinum, Silver and cream.
Until I've done my 9 breeding experiments I'll not know, but I'm working on getting the right colour pairing together now.
