Quail skin is remarkably thin and rips easily, fortunately they heal from these horrific looking wounds incredibly well. The dried blood is a basis for scabbing, so I wouldn't be poking and pulling on that unless there's debris lodged in it. If you use hydrogen peroxide, only use it on the wound one time as it will kill living tissue too, and rinse it with water afterward. Cottonballs or loosened Q-tips will help to apply whatever liquid medications you're using. Neosporin or Triple Antibiotic ointment (without pain relief) works well on these types of wounds, or you can spritz it with Blu-Kote. Cover the eyes and beak before spritzing. No need to cover the wound after, in fact letting it air seems to make the healing process go faster.
