Coturnix in lockdown, when should I become concerned?

I know right? :-D Think how many eggs I could fit in all 3 incubators LOL

Oh they're doing great! They're already feathering and I think they're absolutely gorgeous. One has curled feet that I've been trying to correct without much success. He/she doesn't seem to be bothered by it at all and gets around just fine. Just not as fast as his siblings. so I'm thinking I may have another house pet on my hands. I don't mind babying him as long as he's not suffering or lacking quality of life. I will take pics of them later in their pretty new feathers :)

Now you just need 3 cabinet incubators :D
Thats good. what are you using to try to fix the curled toes?\
Depending on how many hatch out of the 10 with veins i might just keep an indoor pet my self :D

This is going to sound awful but I hate how my dresser is just kind of a 'catch all' because I hang almost everything up. And I was sitting here researching how to turn it into an incubator.

I wouldn't have to buy a cabinet that way too! I could move it out into my workshop and hatch out there.

Well, I tried the bootie that they recommend for chickens but since his feet are so tiny it seemed to do more harm than good. So I'm regularly going in and trying to do a little 'physical therapy'. I bend it and stretch it out the way it's supposed to be for a little bit. Gently of course. I think it's working a little bit but it might be my wishful thinking. He doesn't like it much but if there's any hope of him being able to live a normal life I'm going to make him tough it out. If there's no significant improvement by Monday I will quit doing it and just start making plans to have another house pet. I think the only really special thing I will need to do is make the cage floors soft. Since he's kind of walking on his heels I don't want him to get raw spots.

Oh you definitely should! they don't take up much room and I've read that they can be an excellent companion if they're tamed.

A dresser incubator..... Lol that seems like there would be ALOT of space to incubate stuff. I heard tape will help out with your leg issue but normally only with in the first few days

Well I thought one half could be the incubator and the other half could be for lockdown

is that where you tape the foot flat like it's supposed to be? Cuz that's what I did. I looked like a little boot to me. Except I didn't have any tape that wouldn't rip skin off when I tried to remove it so I used the sticky part of a bandaid.

If you do it be prepaired for more chicks than you can handle..... literally

yeah i heard blue tape works good from a friend that had chickens with that problem.
Day 7 tomorrow :D i cant wait till they hatch

Well it wouldn't be ready to use until spring and that's the perfect time to start offering chicks :-D the feed stores never offer anything very interesting so I'd just have to go with white bresse for the ones wanting meat birds and a nice variety of the cool looking ones for everyone else! The only thing I had one hand was 100mph tape. Military grade duck tape basically lol I didn't think the little thing would appreciate me trying to remove it from his toes

Almost halfway done!

You'll get your little quail and get the fever and then start plotting to turn things like dressers into incubators too LOL

well if your ten make it to lockdown you should have a pretty good shot! about the time yours are hatching I might be able to tell what I've got. Which morphs are you going to order? or have you decided yet?
