In my area in Ohio, people are currently selling jumbo browns at three weeks for four to five each.
Couldn't tell you if people are buying them or not. I know I'm not.
Next birds I hatch out will probably come from Quail Jailer's monsters.

It helps if they cannot see the females.

That said, you should pick out the best rooster and eat the others, 1 roo is quite sufficent for 6-7 females.

60% roos / 40% hens is what I expect when hatching.

Ok, so what size cage are y'all using for 7-8 birds?
I need to make some pens, but won't have a lot of coturnix quail.
I hear about breeding them in trios so this is a surprise to me but if it works I'll do it.
Would 2'x4' be big enough or would I need larger cages for 8 birds?
Any problems with buying females and adding them to a few birds already housed?

I use 2'x6' or 4x6 for my breeders that are in 1:6 or 1:7 groups. The rule of thumb is one bird per square foot for cots as a minimum. I like give them a little more than that because space is directly related to happiness and stress level in game birds.

Ok, that is what I was thinking.
I see a lot of people keeping them in trios in smaller spaces.
The 2'x6' or 3'6' I can do easily, maybe two levels for two sets of birds.
Do not need more cots than that, really.
Think one set of 7/8 birds is all i really need to make the wife happy with eggs but two levels is easily built.
I am really a parrot/grass keet guy getting back into things and doing the quails and chickens now because
I can and they are found easier.
