I recently culled my flock of 22 coturnix. I kept 12 females and 3 males in a 2' x 6' cage. I had all the males separated with no problems so I could keep the biggest ones. Once I put them with the girls the problems started. One of them has bumble foot and they all three fight constantly! I thought I had a good enough male to female ratio, but should i of kept less males? I recently put some of their eggs in the incubator and fertility isn't looking so good. Does any one have any advice?

Its more of a space issue. With that many roos, you need way way more space.
Either partition off the pen to make separate groups, or ditch a couple of the roos.
Or get multiple pens.

How big of a pen should I have for the 12 hens and 3 cocks? What is a good male to female ratio for quail to ensure good fertility?

I have 9 hens and 3 cocks in a 18" x 18" cage and they do not fight.

I currently have a 2x4 pen with 5 hens and 1 roo, all jumbo browns. They are still young.
Most of what I've read on here suggest 3 to 4 hens with 1 roo, but up to 7 hens with 1 roo.
Tolik, you are lucky. Mine are only about three weeks and my spare roos are already jumping on each other in their separate pen.

I've found males raised together are more tolerant of each other to a point. However they will bicker and mount each other, eventually the more dominant roos will become aggressive with the others. You will have to separate the males eventually to keep the peace, sanity, and health of the covey. I keep 3-6 hens with each roo in 2x4 pens. The more dominant roos get more hens.

I am do not know where you get the roomors about 1 sq ft per quail if you I am Ukrainian and have read tons of different books about quail FARMING and thay all says 13 sq in per bird. Now if you keep them as pets or to train a dog than you can do whatever you think is the write size and lok good for you. Thankyou.
