Coturnix Quail Basics- Information and Pictures Galore

Do they make any noise as they are tryig to break out? I know I hear the chicks peeping when they are ready to break out. I just dont want any of my quail to be trapped in unbreakable egg shells.

You should hear them inside the shell by putting it to your ear.

If they are trapped they'll most likely have a pip. But if no zip and they are getting quieter time to break em out. It's a lot harder to do this with such a tiny egg I've done it with chicks and ducklings but not quail.

Well anyway take a fork, that's what I use. Put it in the pip, point the end of the fork upward to avoid hurting the chick. Then wait till the end of the fork touches the top of the egg. Soon a little bit should be removed and you should see the membrane and chick. More info on forum. I'll put up a link.

I don't trust self to pull eggs out. The last time I did I pulled like mostly fertile developing eggs and I got really mad at myself so I just leave them and see what happens. The eggs that remain I throw out or crack open

From the Crazy H-Bar Ranch;
Now that the quail projects have started we have about 80 fertile quails that need to be gone. After Wednesday or Thursday they will be at least 8 days old... I would like to see someone hatch these out...
