wow, thanks.

I even learned some new stuff

I swear mine have been laying more than one a day. It's weird. I collected two eggs this morning that were not in the cage when I went to bed last night. I've collected 4 more during the day. I only have 4 females. This doesn't happen everyday. Weird!

If there was, i'd sure gotta have em too!

However, nope sorry, not that I or any breeder I discuss genetics with (on coturnix) knows of. There is a blue breasted Button quail aka Chinese Painted Quail. They are very pretty.

I searched in google "blue breasted coturnix quail" and guess what came up...nothing but blue breasted button quail which are not coturnix quails.

This is the first image that came up: http://www.birding.in/images/Birds/blue_breasted_quail.jpg

that's
not even a blue breasted button quail either, it's a wild colored male.

This is a blue faced button quail: http://www.zebrafinch.com/NewButtonquail/Quail%20Pictures/BLUEFACE.JPG

It's
hard to trust Google image esp on buttons and coturnix quails as so many people raise both of these birds and know nothing about them and just put info online that they assume is correct.

I raise both buttons and coturnix and talk to breeders of both who have been breeding for decades so it's safe to say that yep theres no blue breasted coturnix but there is indeed blue breasted button quail.

Ofcourse their cage needs a shelter area (unless the whole cage is sheltered). Like I have mine in a rabbit hutch right now, theres a area that they can walk into that's completely sheltered kind of like a dog box area....then the outdoor area that's covered in wire, walls ceiling and walls are wire. I then have the whole hutch covered in a heavy duty tarp---for the winter...will come off in the spring/summer weather permitting.

Then they'll just have their dog box like shelter to go into.

They are very simple to care for anyone who says otherwise is doing something wrong somehow.

I have a pic of some baby A&M's for ya!

They are about 3 days old here, with their 3 day old button buddy!!
As for size comparison, that is a lid to a cake frosting container that their food is in, and the waterer is an X-small gladware bowl!! Plus a BK kids' meal toy!
