This one is while I was still working on it, I put the quail in it while I was working on putting the hardware cloth on. Stayed up half the night reinforcing the outside. I just couldn't stand them being stuck in the wire cages anymore. They had so much fun exploring and fluttering around their pen and running and stretching out their wings.

This is my quail pen that I just built a week or so ago, the bedding is pine bark mulch over sand. The half logs in the back are hollow giving them a place to go to get out of the wind.they like to dig under them and play in the sand, they also seem to enjoy standing on top of them to keep an eye on their surroundings. the wire on the outside goes into the ground with heavy boards over it.

The second picture in this post is of my boyfriends female bobwhite Quail Mrs.white...she lost her boyfriend a few months ago and she got depressed so she's been with the coturnix since then and has especially bonded with one of my older girls. They sleep snuggled up together and share dust baths.

Nice job done on the quail pen:)

Can anyone help me on the gender of my two jumbo brown (at least I think that's what they are) coturnix quail? This is my first round of quail, and I have no clue how to tell. AGE: 2 Weeks 5 Days

Bird 1: Above and Below

Bird 2: above and below (This one is redder than the first bird plus it's WAY more flighty)

Also, how do you tell the gender of Texas A & M?

If this is in the thread already, sorry. too lazy to read through 225 pages.

I don't have quail yet, but I've been looking into them and read this whole thread. I think yours are too young to tell still, from what I've seen you can start being able to tell on the brown ones when they are around 4 weeks old. The white ones, you have to wait until they are breeding age which is around 8 weeks old to be able to tell, to tell with those, after they are sexually mature, the males will produce a foamy stuff from the vent when gently squeezed (this is covered in better detail in this thread).
