Coturnix Quail Basics- Information and Pictures Galore

Mine were over 48hrs I had 13 eggs and 10 hatch. My incubator is quite small so it got crowded after a few chicks hatched. I lost one fully developed chick which had pipped, but didn't get out.... Wonder if that was because I kept opening the incubator.

Thats a very good hatch! Possibly, but it does happen due to natural causes.. Ideally, its best to not open the incubator once "lockdown" begins. Realistically its hard not to at least once a day. It causes temp and humidity swings, its best to not open at all if you can avoid it. If I have a big hatch, I have taken some out but will only do it once and then add water. I have had a full 120 set, and had 2 trampled with it being so full. So, I set the bator on the floor, have a cup of water ready at about 100 degrees. Then I quickly pick up as many of the lil tumblebugs as I can thats dry, add water and close up. These guy are fast, so watch that the little heads, feet and wings are inside! And the first group go right into the brooder.

Therry, very pretty!!!!

I was wondering when I can move my quail outside? I keep hearing all these horror stories about heat lamps causing major fires. Right now its like 50s/60s during the day and usually 40s at night, some nights it gets down in the 30s. I randomly decided I wanted quail and ordered eggs, I didn't really think about it being winter. I'm too impulsive for my own good!!!

Thank you! They should be ready to go as soon as they are fully featherd. Beyond that i'd just keep an eye on them.
