Coturnix Quail Basics- Information and Pictures Galore

LOL yep they can get eeeeexpensive if you keep them long. I have had as many as 60 at a time, probably more!
Hi protein feed is not cheap. I am starting sprouting for them, have millet and some other grains. Doing it for all the poultry.
Really enjoy the little guys, some of the roo's are even friendly to me and cllimb all over my hands.

what feed do you buy? I buy flock raiser. Its only like $20. I have 6 quail and a 50 pound bag lasts about 2 months

400

I get the purina 30% game bird startina when I can. I have about 30 right now. will be processing around 18 in the next few days since I have at least 90 in the incubator. I just offer free choice oyster shell for the hens.
Meant to add, TSC will order it for me. We also have kent feeds at 27% if needed. I have had to buy the 24% several times too. More protein bigger bird.

Flock Raiser.
It's $20 a bag, but I have 60 and we're going through more than a bag a week. They eat like crazy. Almost as bad as the broad breasted turkeys I did once. They went through a bag of flock raiser ever 2 days! And there were only 6!!!
I've used the 30% before & I really liked it, but they stopped carrying it at my local feed store. My TSC never carried it.

Edit: I have 10 2 week old ducklings eating the flock raiser too, but their bowl only gets filled every few days, the quail are multiple times a day.

My kitchen sheers have gotten pretty dull, time to replace.
I need to process like 50 quail this weekend, anyone have recommendations on scissors that work the best or it really doesn't matter?
