Coturnix Quail Basics- Information and Pictures Galore

Happy Easter!

Too cute! Why didn't I think of that..lol..used all the extra chicken and ducks eggs but completely forgot about the dozens of excess quail eggs I have lying all over the house.

Something I have been unable to find an answer for... after you set up your breeding groups, what is done with the excess mature roos? Can they be housed together without any hens? Do they all get culled at that time? Since they are going to be dinner, I would prefer keep them out of freezer camp until they are fully grown.
I just add more brooders. once they are big enough the scissors come out. If there are no hens the boys are fine together. I Have grow out coops for the quail that I divide the birds in. I process hens too, just prevents the birds from scrapping.
Jchny thank you
You're welcome.

Costevo, you could put them together but they will fight, if you want to seperate them you can, but remember to keep them close because they are flock birds. Even if they try through the wire, they cant get to each other so should be just fine. Just keep an eye on them

Ok my hen is begining to be mean to my rooster again. Not sure what to do, but possibly sell him let the girls have some time, get their feathers back and then add in a new male?

Is that a quail roo? Take your roo out. Let him heal, give him time to be normal at least a week.
I use a tote with a screen lid for a hospital. Normal roos will be ready to go after that time.

Thanks. I will probably build a row of single cages for them, allowing them to see and hear each other but not fight.

I have heard that they will crow incessantly if they can see hens, but what if they can only hear them? I could keep one group or the other in my garage, but I'd rather have them outside where the air quality is better.
