lol!! I bet they did! I'm sure they were looking for the offending rooster for a while after that!I played that and I'm next to my pens. My boys got very agitated at the new crow.

They have a whole host of noises that they make depending on the situation. The one I hear the most is a whirring noise that they make when they see something they are interested in and are excited about - usually food! They also make a more rapid sound, a lot like a cluck when they are going somewhere in a group and are sizing each other up - again, usually they are heading towards food. If you have more than one rooster in an enclosure, usually only the dominant one will crow. When more than one start crowing, fights usually break out unless you separate them...I was out with my quail this afternoon and it was the female while on the nest (laying an egg?) who made that missle sound. Im not hearing the Co-Turn-nix crow from either of mine yet but they are both young.
I am not bothered by it either - it is what I visualize when people say that coturnix sing. If you can hear them singing like that from a distance, it's definitely from the hens.Yes I do hear the crickets chirp sounds. Cant be sure of the volume though and I cant say I find it irritating.
You should be ok a couple weeks, but be sure to make a screen lid. They start popping like popcorn, and will spring out of there! I like using tubs since they are very easy to disinfect between hatching & cleaning times. I just rotate to a clean tub, then clean out the one they were in.Hi guys, im hatching 12 jumbos soon and was wondering how many chicks will the big storage tubs hold (used as a brooder)??? and for how long???
