Coturnix Quail Basics- Information and Pictures Galore

mine are so much fun. I had one golden get into a squabble that s/he didn't heal from. I had to cull that one, and one definite male coturnix got culled as well. NONE of the others are crowing...yet none are laying either. So I might be lucky and have no more males...or have males that have figured out the crowers got removed...

as for them laying are you trying to keep them in 14 hours of light a day or wait they are outside right? Hopefully soon you start getting eggs mine are laying upa storm (chicks from the same hatch).

They have at least that, or close to it I am sure. I may even try to move them to a better location. Morning to noonish sun, break for an hour or two from a tree blocking, and then another five or so hours of sun.

I pulled out a trio for ya! 2 young golden hens and a young golden roo.

the one golden hen I may switch before the swap she had been in with the older birds (she was ready to be) so she's got a booboo on her head so I don't want to bring you a booboo bird if she's still looking yucky by then

LOL But they heal really fast so she may be perfectly fine by then lol!

Either way that's what I chose for ya you'll be amazed how quickly they grow

oh, the booboo's won't bother me. I love the look of those tuxedo's, btw. Could I keep them in the same pen as the jumbos? ...maybe toss in some eggies from one of those if you could

yeppers you'll get eggs from ALL my colors that are laying and my tuxedos are laying

NO problemo and yes you can put them in with your jumbos but I would wait until the chicks are atleast 6 weeks old before you do just so no ones scalps get torn off (they heal fast like i told ya but still you have to remove them for them to heal and it's just a pain and much easier to just wait).

I keep a close eye on what's going on out there so if I hear squawking, Im out the door in 2.2. It's usually just my rosecomb roo telling me someone is walking by the house

but it gets me going every time.

Do you hatch them on the incubator floor or in egg cartons? If you use egg cartons, do you turn the carton over, and put the eggs in the small holes?

I saw the carton post by PC and was wondering how others hatch them. Still debating...
