Coturnix Quail Cage

Coturnix are strictly ground birds, most don't even know how to use a ramp. You could probably teach them, though, especially if you left treats in the coop :).

Yep! I put mine up there often and once I get more grip on the ramp I'm going to put their food and water up there. I'm starting to think though, that maybe I could close the door and use the top as a brooder before it gets too cold. So I don't have to brood my next batch indoors... the dust! Lol

I put small pieces of wood at regular intervals screwed onto the ramp. I use sand on the ramp at first, they seem to have little trouble using the ramp or their nest boxes. The sooner you put nest boxes in, the more regularly they use them.

I gave mine a nesting box, it only got used once, they then promptly dug a hole in the ground and all of them layed there lol Texas a&m quail are not the brightest

I hear people calling quail dumb all the time and it makes me sad. Don't forget: they aren't chickens. They won't instinctively use the structures we invented for chickens. They are ground birds first and foremost, and ground birds feel safest on the ground.

I meant the fact that they wanted to lay in a hole versus hay was amusing, mine knew how to use a ramp, and I trained them to come to a certain sound to receive mealworms.
