Coturnix Quail Pen Ceiling Height

Is 12 inches to low for the ceiling for a quail pen? Would that make it to hard to work in. I am thinking of 2ft wide 1ft high x 8ft long with an enclosed house 2ftx 2ft.

Yep, that will work.

Will that be big enough for 16 quail or is that pushing it?

That's just about right. You could even fit a few more if you really wanted to.

My plan is to make 3 layered pen with poop trays. One layer for eggs, one layer for meat birds , The Honeymoon Suite for 9 brides and 3 grooms. Sound reasonable?

One more question the only wire will be on the front and floor . Can use 1"x 1/2" 16 gage cage wire for the front and 1/2x 1/2" hardware cloth for the floor. I have left over wire from another project.

I wouldn't unless it was in a secure building or you have very few predators. Highly unlikely though...
